Apply for a Library Card at Milton Public Library

All Milton, Vermont, residents are eligible to apply for a free library card. A resident is a person who pays taxes in the Town of Milton, whether they live in Milton full-time or part-time.

Applicants will need to provide a photo ID and proof of a current Milton address. If your photo ID does not include your current address, you may use a utility bill, tax bill, lease, etc. You may list a P.O. Box as a mailing address, but you must list a secondary physical address to obtain a library card.

Home Card Patrons

Milton Public Library is a member of the Homecard Library System, a cooperative lending program of 23 libraries in northwestern Vermont. Milton Home Card library cards are given to patrons age 18 and older. These cards have an M64 sticker on the back. A list of the Home Card libraries is at the end of this document.

Patrons who have a library card from one of the participating Homecard libraries may checkout items from Milton Public Library. Interlibrary loans (ILLs), family recreation passes, and some new books are not available to patrons with Home Cards when visiting other libraries.

Please bring your library card with you to the lending library. You are responsible for returning the items to the location from which you borrowed them.

The libraries in Alburgh, Burlington (Fletcher Free), Isle La Motte, North Hero, and St. Albans are NOT Homecard participating libraries. Residents of these locales may only checkout items from Milton Public Library by purchasing a nonresident card.

Nonresident Cards

Adults who are not Milton residents (taxpayers) and do not have a home card from a particpating library may apply for a nonresident card. The same procedures apply. There is a $20 annual fee. You must provide a photo ID with a current address. Nonresident cards are not eligible for Home Card status.

Lost Cards

There is a $1 replacement fee for lost cards.

Cardholder Responsibilities

Milton Public Library does not charge overdue fees. However, once an item is more than four weeks overdue, the patron will received a bill for the cost of replacing that item(s). Cardholders are also responsible for paying for damaged or lost materials. The patron’s library card will be suspended until the materials are returned or the bill is paid in full.
