FRIENDS OF MPL

The Friends of Milton Public Library, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, welcomes volunteers who would like to help with ongoing and special projects to raise money for library programs, materials, equipment, and furnishings beyond the scope of the town budget. These projects include the ongoing book sale, the annual Holiday Basket Raffle, the Winter Festival Chili Cook-Off, and pop-up book/bake sales. 

Donations

Donations to the Friends of Milton Public Library supplement the library’s budget, enabling us to provide additional resources and programs to the community.

Monetary Donations
Contributions by cash or check may be made to the Friends of Milton Public Library. All donations are tax deductible, to the extent of the law. Checks should be mailed to Milton Public Library, 39 Bombardier Road, Milton, Vermont, 05468.

Membership

Membership is open to anyone interested in helping the library. If interested in becoming a member, email friends@mplvtfriends.org

Governing Body

The Friends of Milton Public Library are governed by an executive board consisting of four elected officials: president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. The term of office is three years, except that any officer shall serve until their successor is found. Officers may be reelected. In the event of a vacancy in the office of president, the vice president shall assume the office.

Meetings

According to the group’s bylaws, there shall be a minimum of one meeting a year, with the annual meeting held in August. Regular business meetings may be called as needed. Five members shall constitute a quorum. Notice of meetings will be posted at the library, on the library’s website, and on the library’s Facebook page.

Regular Programs

Book Sale
The Friends hold an ongoing book sale in the library, featuring donated items, including books, DVDs, and audiobooks. The Friends also maintain a section in the book sale for free trading of magazines. Help yourself!

The Giving Tree
The Giving Tree is one way in which the Friends show appreciation for donations. For gifts of $100 – $249, donors may have a personal or business name inscribed on a small leaf. For gifts of $250 or more, donors may have a name inscribed on a large leaf. You can donate online on our Donation Page.

Book Bags
Proceeds from the sale of our book bags benefit Milton Public Library. You can purchase book bags online from our Donation Page.

Basket Raffle
Place your purchased raffle tickets in the container for the gift basket(s) you would like to win. Donated baskets include a book and other items. This popular event is held each year beginning in October, and culminating with the raffle drawings on the first Saturday in December.

Bake Sale
The Friends host a bake sale at the library during Election Day in November and March.

Chili Cook-Off
The Friends host a chili cook-off in the library, as part of Milton’s Winter Festival each February.
